Single Origin
What Is Single Origin Chocolate?
Chocolate made using cacao beans from one specific place or "origin".
Why Is It Special?
Single origin is like the fine wine of chocolate - instead of using a blend of beans from a lot of different countries (think of Hershey's, their chocolate always tastes the same), single origin allows chocolate makers to focus on one particular region and like wine, chocolate's taste is partially determined by the environment where the cacao trees grow. Cacao beans from different countries have their own distinctive flavor.
It's like a fine wine vs a forty.
